Joining God’s Work

Session Overview

In this session Luke Johnson calls students to prepare their hearts before they ever arrive in New Orleans. He reminds us that mission work does not begin when we step into a new city but when we choose to humbly join what God is already doing. The heart of the session centers on approaching missions with humility teachability and daily dependence on the Holy Spirit rather than confidence in our own ability.

Luke emphasizes that faithful mission living flows out of a deep personal grasp of the gospel. As we depend on the Spirit and live lives shaped by the good news our words and actions become a witness wherever we are. Preparation through prayer obedience and gospel readiness allows us to serve faithfully in New Orleans and to continue living on mission when we return home

Key Takeaways

  • Come to missions with humility recognizing we are joining God’s work not creating our own
  • Stay teachable by learning the city listening to people and asking good questions
  • Depend daily on the Holy Spirit rather than personal strength or confidence
  • Know the gospel clearly so it can be shared in long or brief conversations
  • Pray regularly for the city the people and the churches you will serve alongside
  • Start obeying Jesus where you are so mission life becomes a way of living not a moment
