Safety

Safety in New Orleans

Preparing for a mission trip is exciting, and it's natural for both attendees and parents back home to think about safety. We live in New Orleans and love this city, but we know there is crime here as well. Here's how we work to keep everyone safe and at ease.

01

Safe Campus

Your week takes place on the campus of New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary and Leavell College. Campus is very secure, with a fence surrounding the whole premises and cameras along it as well.

There are gates and a guard house that everyone has to pass through to access campus. There is also patrol on campus 24 hours a day.

02

Safe Sites

When teams are off campus serving in the community, we still want everyone to feel secure. The ministry sites we serve at have been trusted partners and locations we've served at for many years.

While we can't guarantee safety every moment, we keep it top of mind when planning ministry sites, and want to give the best assurance we can.

03

Pray

Whether you're coming on this trip yourself or sending someone, this week is an opportunity to grow spiritually, both here and at home.

If you're a parent, you can grow in your prayer life by praying for your student's safety and trusting that God will be with them. Praying Proverbs 3:5-6 over the trip helps everyone, attendees and families, lean into trusting God together.

Growth

Growing at MissionLab

A mission trip is a great place to grow spiritually. While at MissionLab, you'll spend time alone with God, hear Christ-centered preaching, and serve in the city of New Orleans, all of which can lead to deeper, more grounded faith. Whether you're attending yourself or supporting someone who is, here's how to make the most of the week.

Exposure to a Different Culture

New Orleans is unlike any other place, influenced by Spanish, French, and American cultures, with Catholics, Muslims, Atheists, Voodoo, Evangelicals, and more. The week is an opportunity to learn what it's like to engage with a culture different from your own.

Sharing Christ With Others

You'll have the opportunity to share Christ with people who may not share your beliefs. This will challenge and help solidify your faith and sharpen your ability to communicate the gospel while working with your team.

Set Goals Before You Come

Take time before the trip to think through why you're going and how you hope to grow. Set goals: spiritual growth, Scripture memorization, teamwork, relational growth, and responsibility. Parents can help students do the same.

Study Scripture Together

Find out which Scripture passages will be covered during the week. Attendees can come prepared, and parents can study the same passages at home, opening the door for richer conversation when the trip is over.
